Just some of our success stories. Let's make more!

Image of Billy, the dog.   In December of 2005, BBCRA took in 5 canine refugees from the Hurrican Katrina aftermath. Billy, the free spirit of the group, now enjoys dual-citizenship. Billy, aka Yukon, has turned in his jet-ski for snow skis and now enjoys life in Toronto, Canada. He now spends his days romping with his big brother Canyon, a Belgian Malinois rescue. Yukon's dad calls his little guy the "Wayne Newton of the off-leash dog park."
Image of Scrappy, the dog.   Scrappy-Doo earned his name at the Muttshack staging area in New Orleans, and still answers to it today. Scrappy's foster mom emailed his photo to a former adopter who fell head-over-heels in love with this little man. He now lives with his big sister Allie, a Whippet-mix. His new mom says, "He greets us at the door, his whole backend wiggling — whether we've been to the mailbox or gone a couple hours."
Image of Spud, the cat.   Spud's hardly as scary as he looks. He's actually laughing in this picture. His story is coming soon.

Image of Alex, the dog.   Alexandra and Nicholas arrived on the same transport with Scrappy. Everyone wanted to be very close to Alex — somewhere between New Orleans and Chapel Hill, Alex decided to go into heat! After one long and exciting evening, Alex was spayed the very next day! Bubbly and vivacious, Alex was the household social director in her foster family. When she's not tutoring her parents, Alex enjoys the company of her sister, Suki, a Dutch Shepard puppy.
Image of Nicholas, the dog   Alexandra's sibling, Nicholas, was always the sweet, mellow boy of the gang. This handsome lover boy was the sugar to Alexandra's spice. He is now one spoiled boy, living the good life in Cary, NC. His mom tells us he is the happiest dog ever! "He wakes up in a good mood and it lasts all day. He loves all people and would rather be on the receiving end of a belly-rub than a treat.
Image of Cane, the dog.   While Billy, Scrappy, Alex and Nick were in remarkably good condition upon their arrival in NC, Cane was the exception. He was severly traumatized by Katrina and was in poor physical condition. Cane's foster mom nurtured the frightened Cane into a confident, well-adjusted canine. Cane's permanent home is with his foster family. "He has stolen our hearts and is the sweetest boy. We love him so much and could not bear to part with him." Hear more about Cane here.

Image of Muffin, the cat.   Muffin. As in sweet, soft and a family favorite. Her story is coming soon.
Image of Beau, the dog.   Big Beau now has a home with someone with a big heart. Bill met Beau with the young man he mentors as a Big Brother. Beau hopes to invite his former foster sis Kate over for playtime at his fantastic new digs in the country. Bill has lots of experience with black labs — he used to train them as puppy candidates for the guide dog program. Thanks to Lab Rescue of NC for posting Beau on their website.
Image of Bernie, the dog.   BERNIE! This big love of a dog was found on the streets of New Orleans in early November 2005 and got adopted on New Year's Day in 2006! A lover of all people, this hound/mastiff mix enjoys lounging on the family's recliner. He enjoys gingerly holding fleece articles in his mouth. His parents in Wake Forest showed him lots of TLC when he was recouping from a heartworm treatment.

Image of Billy, the dog.   Billy was found in a bathtub as part of a hoarding situation. His condition was so bad, he was used as evidence in court! And now look at him: he made his way from Georgia to Murphy, NC to Raleigh, NC. On his way to Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue he bunked with some kind folks in Raleigh. Erica and Michael (aka Mom and Dad) fell in love with Billy and made sure they reserved him a permanent spot at their hom the next day. Even Kinsey the cat loves Billy.
Image of Crosby, the dog.   Look at this guy! Obviously, Crosby is right at home with his new folks in Carrboro, NC. He's enrolled in obedience classes to show off what a good boy he is. Aside from his cool folks and playtime, Crosby enjoys ruling the futon.
Image of Ella, the cat cuddling with Rizzo, the dog.   Colleen, a response team member for Bayou Rescue, had only planned to foster little "Ella Louise" until a home was found. Turns out after their dog Rizzo had his say in the matter, she already WAS home. Rizzo has taken her under his wing (paw), and is helping her to come out of her shell. Miss Ella's new family has 1 person, 3 dogs, 3 cats, and 2 goats. Bet they stay warm at night!

Image of Huey, the cat.   "I've settled into my new home, which is stuffed with scratching posts, catnip toys, treats, a fancy waterfall water bowl and LOTS of windows. Those squirrels have another thing coming ... I figured out that I rule around here, so I took the name Huey P. Long. My mom calls me 'The Governor' while my New Orleans vet refers to me as 'The Kingfish.' And did I mention I'm going to be famous? My mom is insering me in her latest book. I'll probably save the world or something ... yaaawwwn."
Image of Frankie, the dog.   "Frankie" (a.k.a. Ol' Blue Eyes) was adopted by Susan and Noah. They fostered him after his whistlestop trip from the Mississippi delta. He is having great fun playing with their resident hound and is completely uninterested in their 13 year old blind cat. This guy was timid at the rescue site, but immediately frolicked around and smiled after arriving in the Triangle.
Image of Jimbo, the dog.   Jimbo was surrendered by his elderly person in Pass Christian, after Katrina. Happy ending to this story by TriBeagles: "Jimbo got a wonderful home with a family in Cary. They have 2 kids who are 10 and 12, a big fenced-in yard and a 3-year-old female beagle. They adore him and he has settled into their home like he has always lived there. His new family says he is so sweet, calm, friendly and super personable with everyone he meets."
